End of seat, start of suspension

 Well, the seat padding came to an abrupt halt as I've purchased a pad from Lidl. Time will tell whether it's sufficient. Having a foam pad for yesterdays drive showed it helps, but even with thigh support it didn't do my knees any good. I was also far too close to the steering wheel with my legs bent. Hopefully with the Lidl pad I can keep the seat back a bit but save my back side. So no more on that for now.

Back to the rear suspension. I have some awful creaks going on from the rear, and it turns out that once again the suspension has twisted. Again, not a huge amount but it has twisted.

I need to look at the shear pins drilled through the block and the wishbone. Staying with 6mm diameter, I need to figure out the length.

Some quick measurements gives me;

  • 64mm wide spacer block
  • 45mm tall spacer block
  • 19mm thick spacer block
  • 32mm thick including the suspension plates
So that means a 30mm pin might not give the full engagement. Luckily there is an ebay listing for M6 x 32, a 10 pack is £8. I'm not in a hurry for them as I wouldn't be able to do that sort of work in the week.

What I can do is strip things down in preparation for them, although even that is probably best suited to waiting for the parts to arrive.

I've also given the front bushes a squirt of silicon as they were a bit squeaky. Actually, I should have done PTFE rather than silicon... Ah well, that may be a clean up job to do soon!
